NGS – Pearl Harbor
In November of 2000, Kip was hired by National Geographic to help provide deepwater assistance to Explorer-in-Residence Dr. Robert Ballard with a search for the first casualty of the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor - a Japanese submarine sunk by a U.S. destroyer. Using the Deep Worker submersible, Kip made dives to 1,300 feet to help locate the Japanese sub. Unfortunately the sub was never located, but during the course of several dives, Kip was able film various artifacts of the war including military planes, tanks, ships and several Japanese torpedoes.
